An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the man continued to play the "treat game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities once more.
She stated the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
